Sits and Downs

I have started Escape in clicker training and she is doing well with her introduction to sits and down stays. Our work is still very basic, but she is making very good progress.

Woo Hoo!

Escape loves a good stuffy toy and running around our yard. She is a silly, happy, goofy girl!

Non-Greyhounds

Escape is quickly learning that not all dogs look like greyhounds. After getting over the initial shock over the smaller size, Escape quickly accepted the pups seen above as friends. Escape is very dog friendly and might make a good playmate with another big dog. My greyhounds love her as she does not mind everyone chasing her. She enjoys playing the role of the lure.

Trail Blazing

Escape went on her first hike on Monday. She is very good on leash and was curious to see what was around every corner.

She even got her feet wet.
Here she is not cooperating. I wanted a picture of Escape with the red fall leaves in the background, but does not do a stand stay just yet.

Blending in with the fall leaves.

Races

I was looking at Escape's racing record at www.greyhound-data.com and noticed that in her last several races, she rubbed her muzzle off before the starting box opened. I thought that was interesting. Click on the race record above to enlarge.

Sits and Such

Escape Hatch has learned to sit. She is very food motivated so she enjoys training and earning treats (notice the blurry tail in the photo above). Her tail never stops wagging!

Totally Fetching

One of the coolest things about Escape Hatch is that she is a natural retriever. Retrieving does not come naturally to most greyhounds, but Escape Hatch is one of those rare individuals that will actually bring the ball back to you.

For this reason, Escape Hatch would really enjoy having a fenced yard to chase her ball in.

Puzzle Food Toys

One of the best ways to prevent separation anxiety in all dogs is to leave them home alone with puzzle food toys. Toys such as Kongs, Amaze-A-Ball, Tug-A-Jug, and rope toys stuffed with kibble are great ways to teach a new dog that being home alone is actually something to look forward to. Greyhounds are no exception.

I have had Escape Hatch at my house for a few days now and she is learning all about the puzzle food toys. She is very food motivated so she is quick to catch onto these gadgets. Here she enjoys a Kong stuffed with my famous dry dog food, canned dog food, and an egg mixture. She was such a quick study, I had to freeze them so they would last longer.

What a Blast!

Escape Hatch is a blast! What a fun girl. She LOVES to play. She had a great time rolling, pushing and bouncy a tennis ball around. She ran around the run tonight like she was having the time of her life.

She'd run a little then come back over as if to say, "did you see me run?" She's a happy little girl who would make the sourest person giggle. She'll bring a great deal of joy into some lucky person's life.
